ISRO launches earth observation satellite, RISAT-2BR1 |
The Indian Space Research Organisation launched its earth observation satellite, RISAT-2BR1 on Wednesday afternoon on the reliable workhorse PSLV-C48 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The launch took place at 3.25 PM Indian Standard Time. RISAT-2BR1, a Radar imaging earth observation satellite and weighing about 628 kg, was placed into an orbit of 576 km at an inclination of 37 degrees. The satellite is meant for applications in various fields like agriculture, forestry and disaster management support. PSLV-C48, which is the 50th mission of PSLV, also carried 9 customer satellites of Israel, Italy, Japan and the USA as co-passengers. These international customer satellites were launched under a commercial arrangement with NewSpace India Limited.
