India, Bangladesh negotiate CEPA |
Bangladesh`s commerce minister Tipu Munshi will be visiting India on December 22 to firm up the roadmap for negotiations on the India-Bangladesh Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). During his two-day visit starting December 22, he is expected to meet with his counterpart Minister of Commerce and IndustryTrade Piyush Goyal. The two countries have already finalized a Joint Feasibility Study related to CEPA. The two sides are keen to conclude the CEPA agreement as it is expected to help in boosting trade and investments between the two neighbours and more importantly in enhancing trade in the Eastern and North Eastern region. In 2021, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Dhaka, the two sides decided to conclude the Joint Feasibility Study related to the agreement fast. Earlier in September, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi and focused on various aspects of bilateral relations as well as the deepening of cooperation in energy, food security, connectivity, and more. The two leaders are keen to conclude CEPA as that could double India`s exports to neighboring Bangladesh to over $32 billion.
