India, Canada sign 6 MoUs |
India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau inked six MoUs on Feb 23, after holding bilateral talks on a wide range of sectors including trade and investment, energy, education, healthcare, IT, start up, science and technology, defence and security and tourism. Trudeau was given a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, where he was received by President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Modi and members of the Union Cabinet. He later paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. He also held talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Taking to Twitter a day before the meeting, PM Modi said he was looking forward to the meeting and holding talks on further strengthening ties between the two countries. Prime Minister Trudeau says India is a natural partner and a trusted friend. Modi and Trudeau welcome cooperation in several sectors. He adds that India is the second largest source of students in Canadian universities. He said the two countries are similar in terms of democratic and cultural practices as well. He ends by thanking the PM Modi for his hospitality. PM Modi says India and Canada have similar thoughts on the current situation in Maldives and in North Korea.
