India, Japan cooperation in 5G & AI |
Further strengthening the bilateral relations between India and Japan, the two countries have finalized a pact for cooperation in sectors like 5G, AI, critical information and Infrastructure. The move is strategic for both the countries, especially amidst the recent the standoff between India and China. The two strategic partners have agreed to further broad-base their ties, including giving momentum to supply chain initiative in the Indo-Pacific region. This was decided after a meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi in Tokyo on Wednesday, held a day after the Quadrilateral Foreign Ministers` meet. As per the ministry of external affairs “Recognising the increasing role being played by digital technologies, the two ministers highlighted the need for robust and resilient digital and cyber systems and in this context, welcomed the finalization of the text of the cybersecurity agreement. The agreement promotes cooperation in capacity building, research and development, security, and resilience in the areas of Critical Information Infrastructure, 5G, Internet, Artificial Intelligence, among others,". The cooperation between India and Japan on 5G technology comes in the backdrop of growing reluctance by a significant number of countries globally to allow Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei to roll out 5G services in their territories.
