India approves commercial export of COVID-19 vaccines |
India on 22nd January has begun commercial export of its indigenous vaccines to fight Covid-19. After sending shipments of vaccines to it`s immediate neighbors, India dispatched the first two batches on a commercial basis to Morocco and Brazil. India-manufactured vaccines will also be sent to two Indian Ocean island nations — Mauritius, Seychelles, and Myanmar. Like Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, and Sri Lanka, the vaccines will be sent as a grant or a gift from the government of India. Consignments for Brazil and Morocco dispatched on Friday would include two million doses of vaccines to each of the two countries. The supplies to these two countries will be on a commercial basis. Bharat Biotech has also signed an agreement with authorities in the Philippines for the necessary clearances. This is a preliminary step ahead of starting commercial sales. Supplies to South Africa and Saudi Arabia too would be dispatched soon. The shipments to neighboring countries as gifts cement India`s position as the first responder in times of crises as well as its primacy in South Asia. Shipments to other countries underline India`s reputation as the “pharmacy to the world." In India, the vaccination drive numbers reached nearly one million on Thursday. In the next phase of the immunization drive, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several other ministers aged over 50 years are likely to be vaccinated for Covid-19 soon.
