India clinches first ever test series in Australia |
Soon after the fifth and final day of the Fourth Test of the Domain Test Series was called off due to rain and bad light, the Indian Cricket Team broke into celebration. It is a historic and memorable day in the history of Indian cricket as the Indian cricket team led by Captain Virat Kohli became the first Indian team to win a test series in Australian soil in the 71 years of Indian Cricket. India which is at number 1 in the ICC Test Rankings, clinched the series 2-1 with wins at Adelaide and Melbourne. India also retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with the series win. It is a rare first Down Under for India since Lala Amarnath`s side visited the country back in 1947-48 months after independence to face Sir Don Bradman`s `Invincibles`. Things turned out to be a bit of anti-climactic in the end as India had a fair chance of adding insult to the injury with a 3-1 victory margin as they got the home team to follow-on in their den for the first time in 30 years after scoring 622 in their only innings. If Kohli`s hundred in the Perth Test was remarkable, the determined Cheteshwar Pujara scored three centuries in the other three tests aggregating a total of 521 runs. The unconventional Jasprit Bumrah was the other hero of the series taking 21 Australian wickets to rattle the home side.
