India evacuates peacekeeping force from Libya |
India`s Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj has said that India is evacuating its entire contingent of 15 CRPF personnel from Tripoli in Libya, after the situation there has suddenly worsened. The CRPF contingent was deployed as a peacekeeping force in Tripoli. The ongoing military conflict in Libya has escalated after forces of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar launched an airstrike on Sunday in an area in Tripoli and the government vowed a major counteroffensive. The United Nations has called for an two-hour truce between the two forcers, to allow evacuations of civilians and the wounded. Rivalries between Haftar and the government is threatening to plunge the country into a civil war. The concurrent charge of Libya is currently with the Indian Ambassador to Tunisia.
