India has 70% of World`s tiger population |
Releasing the All India Tiger Estimation report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the tiger population in India has increased from 2,226 in 2014 to 2,967 in 2018, “Nine long years ago, it was decided in St. Petersburg that the target of doubling the tiger population would be 2022. We in India completed this target four years early,” He said releasing the results of the fourth cycle of All India Tiger Estimation at his official residence here. India, with around 3,000 tigers, is one of the biggest and safest habitats for tigers in the world. Three-fourths of the world`s tigers are in India. Today we reaffirm our commitment towards protecting tigers. According to the census, Madhya Pradesh saw the highest number of tigers at 526, closely followed by Karnataka at 524 and Uttarakhand at number 3 with 442 tigers.
