India in cricket World Cup semifinal |
On Tuesday, Rohit Sharma equalled a number of records as India beat Bangladesh by 28 runs to seal a berth in the Semi Finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup. Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. Opener Rohit Sharma came out all guns blazing and scored 104, his fourth century of the tournament equalling Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakarra`s feat in the 2015 edition. He also put on a hard fought 180 run opening stand with K L Rahul which is the highest opening stand in World Cups for India. Rohit now has amassed 544 runs in the tournament to become the second Indian, after master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, to score more than 500 runs in a single edition of the World cup. Rohit`s century at Edgbaston helped India put up a fighting 314 on board which India was able to defend as the bowlers led by Jasprit Bumrah skittled out the Bangla batsmen for 286 all out. India will play their last league match against Sri Lanka, before the semi finals start. Australia is the only other team which has qualified for the semi finals. New Zealand, England and Pakistan are in the race for the remaining two semi final spots.
