India inducts 2nd scorpene class submarine |
In a significant step towards safeguarding its territorial waters and strengthening its naval might. India on Saturday, commissioned its 2nd scorpene class submarine in with the name, INS Khanderi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, commissioned the Kalvari Class diesel-electric attack submarine in Mumbai. Speaking at the function, the defence minister said that Pakistan should understand that with strong resolve and advancement in its naval capacity, India is capable of giving a much bigger blow to it. Mr. Singh stated that construction of the submarine is benefiting industries indirectly through the Make in India programme while the Navy`s special partnership with the French Navy will touch new heights. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also launched the warship INS Nilgiri, which is the first of the Navy`s seven new stealth frigates fitted with state¬-of-¬the-¬art weapons and sensors. This multi¬mission frigate will be capable of dealing with conventional and unconventional threats to India`s maritime interests. He also inaugurated the Indian Navy`s first aircraft-carrier dry dock in Mumbai. The Aircraft Carrier Dock is capable of accommodating INS Vikramaditya, indigenous Aircraft Carrier under construction at Cochin Shipyard Limited and ships with tonnage upto 90,000 tonnes, making it the largest dry dock of the Indian Navy.
