India inducts US made Apache choppers |
8 United States-made Apache AH-64E attack helicopters were inducted into the Indian Air Force on Tuesday. The addition of the Apache fleet will significantly enhance the IAF`s combat capabilities. The IAF had received the handover of the first Apache helicopter in mid May this year. Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal B S Dhanoa, was the chief guest during the induction ceremony, which took place at the Pathankot Air Force station. The AH-64E Apache, is one of the world`s most advanced multi-role combat helicopters. The IAF had signed a multi-billion dollar contract with the US Government and Boeing Ltd in September 2015 for purchase of 22 Apache helicopters. Apache helicopters will provide a significant edge in any future joint operations in support of land forces. The new acquisition is an important step towards modernisation of the IAF`s helicopter fleet. The helicopter has been customized to suit IAF`s future requirements and carry out precision attacks.
