India out of World Cup, loses to NZ |
After a dominant performance by the Indian cricket team on Tuesday to restrict New Zealand to 211 in 46 overs before rain stopped play, New Zealand took full advantage of the seaming conditions on Wednesday as they decimated the famed Indian batting line up to reach their second successive World Cup final after dramatically toppling India by 18 runs at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday. Chasing 240 to win in 5 full quota of 50 overs, India slumped to five for three and were 24 for four after 10 overs. But India somehow recovered to 150 for 6 off 40 overs, needing 90 runs off the remaining 60 balls and MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja sharing a century partnership. Ravindra Jadeja played a heroic knock of 77 but Boult got rid of him in the 48th over with the left-hander skying a good length delivery to Williamson. On what can be termed as the last world cup innings for the legendary MS Dhoni, he was run out by a direct hit from Martin Guptill that all but sealed the game. Neesham got the final wicket of Yuzvendra Chahal to spark celebrations in the New Zealand camp.
