India rout Lanka, win ODI 3-match series |
Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar, known for his tedious line-n-length bowling, showed the cricket all-rounder in him on 20th July. India pulled themselves out of an awkward situation to tame Sri Lanka by three wickets in a thriller one day international cricket match. This victory gives India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. The third one-dayer will be played on 23rd July. A Sri Lanka, whose cricketers had been under fire in recent months for a string of insipid performances, showed a disciplined approach and came close to embarrassing the fancied Indian team. Choosing to bat first, Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka`s young team showed their first priority was to bat through 50 overs to reach a challenging total of 275 for nine. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar took three wickets each while quick bowler Chahar claimed two to put in an all-round show. Chasing the target, the Indian top-order of Prithvi Shaw and Ishan Kishan falling to rash strokes. India kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Finally, an undefeated 77-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Chahar who made 69 off 82 balls, and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar who scored 19 off 28 balls, took them over the line after they lost a cluster of wickets and were struggling at 193 for the loss of seven wickets.
