India to manufacture its own Kalashnikov |
Clinching a major milestone in defense production, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dedicated the Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt Limited to the nation at Kauhar in Amethi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The latest series of the iconic Kalashnikov rifles will be made in the Korwa Ordnance Factory. Prime Minister said that this is the best example not only of Made in India but also Made in Amethi. Prime Minister also attacked the previous governments for stalling the modernization of defence forces. The Indo-Russia Rifles Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between India`s Ordnance factory and Russian firm, is a milestone in Indo-Russian cooperation. Russian President Vladimir Putin in a message said that for more than seven decades, we have been supplying reliable and high-quality armaments and equipment to Indian friends. Around 170 military and industrial facilities have been set up in India with assistance from our country. He said the new joint venture will manufacture world famous Kalashnikov assault rifles of the newest 200 series and eventually will reach full localization of production. Thus, the Indian defence-industrial sector will have the opportunity to fulfill the needs of national security agencies in this category of small arms, resting upon advanced Russian technologies.
