India to roll out 5G services in October 2022 |
The Indian Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnav, told the media after the end of the bidding for the 5G spectrum that out of the total 72,098 MHz of spectrum around 71 percent had been sold in the auction. The fifth generation (5G) telecom services are likely to be launched in India by October 2022 as the government successfully completed the spectrum auction on 1st August 2022. Indian government has mopped up over ₹ 1.50 lakh crores or US$ 19 billion in bids by four companies including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Adani Data Networks. A total of 40 rounds of bidding were conducted in seven days. Vaishnaw said the allocation of the spectrum to the successful bidders would be done by August 10.
