India convened the first-ever and a humungous gathering of political leaders, behavioral scientists and personalities from 65 nations, of which 50 Ministers, to debate a subject not too long ago considered taboo - of Toilets and Poop! India is celebrating 4 years of a stupendous achievement of building 80+ million toilets that brought rural sanitation up by 50+% to 92% and making 420 districts open defecation free. India's goal is to achieve 100% Open Defecation Free status in rural sanitation by Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birthday on 2nd October 2019. Global leaders said it was unimaginable. United Nations, that set the Sustainable Development Goals of which No. 6 focuses on sanitation and hygiene, said the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Movement) started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 has thrown up lessons to share to achieve the most difficult task that could ultimately lead to poverty alleviation. The 4-day conclave inaugurated by the Honourable President of India on 29th September 2018 is not just dubbed as historic but one that brings the world together in terms of sharing best practices that could ultimately deliver a solution to reduce unwieldy health and hygiene expenditures especially for developing nations.
