Indian Air Force receives first Rafale fighter jet |
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday will meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris and receive the first of the 36 Rafale aircraft in the French port city of Bordeaux. He will also perform Shastra Puja on the occasion of Dussehra and take a sortie in the fighter jet. India had ordered 36 Rafale fighter jets from France in a deal worth 8.3 billion dollars in September 2016. The first batch of four Rafale jets are expected to fly to their home base in India by May 2020. Tuesday also marks the 87th anniversary of the Indian Air Force which is the fourth largest air force in the world after the US, China and Russia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet today, on Air Force Day, a proud nation expresses gratitude to our air warriors and their families.
