Indian States told to increase COVID vaccination |
The Modi government has asked the state governments of Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi to undertake necessary corrective actions immediately for improving the COVID19 vaccination drives. Additional Secretary, Union Health Ministry, Manohar Agnani, has written to Principal Secretaries of Health and Family Welfare of Punjab, Delhi, and Maharashtra. Agnani said a total of over 10.6 million doses have been made available to Maharashtra against the total consumption of 9 million 53 thousand. Detailed analysis of the performance of the Covid 19 vaccination drive reveals that 85.95 percent of registered Health Care workers have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine so far. The second dose coverage is nearly 41 percent which is below the national average. So, the state needs to push the drive immediately. In a similar letter, Agnani said Punjab that a total of over 2.24 million doses have been made available to the state against the total consumption of 1.5 million. The vaccination dose coverage in this state also falls below the national average. Agnani has said that over 2.37 million doses have been made available to Delhi against the total consumption of over 1.87 million. Hence, the vaccination dose coverage in Delhi is also below the national average.
