Indians No. 1 applicants for USA EB-5 visa in 2019 |
With growing restrictions on the H1-B visas, more and more Indians are now opting for the EB-5 immigrant investor visa for entering into the United States of America. This was proved by the latest data sourced by the non-profit making Invest in the USA. Indians overtook those from China and Vietnam to file the highest number of EB-5 Immigrant Investor applications in the October-December and April-June quarters of the fiscal year 2019. The Trump administration has been increasing pressure on H-1B and L-1 visa holders to move to the permanent visa and green card through the EB-5 Program. The Demand for EB-5 visas, which provide applicants a direct path to US citizenship, rose 400% in India between 2016 and 2019. About a third of these applications were filed by Indians living in America to counter the excessively long green card processing times for Indian nationals. In 2018, 585 Indians received EB-5 visas, and this number went up to 760 in 2019 up 43% over the previous year, when there was a country cap of 770 EB-5 visas in a year. India has overtaken China in terms of the number of applications filed for the first time ever which also shows the strength of the Indian market. The EB-5 investor program is gaining popularity for people who want to secure their place in the US. More and more H-1B visa holders in line for a green card are opting for the EB-5 to secure their citizenship in the country.
