Irate India makes US validate stand on Jammu & Kashmir
The US Administration appears to be on the defensive following India`s rebuttal to President Donald Trump`s comments claiming PM Narendra Modi`s suggestion to him to mediate and stated that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between Delhi and Islamabad. The US State Department on Tuesday sought to suggest that the Trump administration welcomed India and Pakistan to sit down and discuss Kashmir. The US state department believes that Pakistan must take irreversible steps against terror infrastructure for sustained dialogue with India. President Donald Trump met with Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss how the United States and Pakistan can work together to bring peace, stability, and economic prosperity to South Asia. India on Monday night denied US President Donald Trump`s claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked him to mediate in resolving the Kashmir issue with Pakistan. As he met Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan at the White House, Trump offered to be the “mediator” on the Kashmir issue and even said he has received a request to do so from Modi during a recent meeting with him. India`s External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said no such request has been made by Modi to the US president. He said it has been India`s consistent position that all outstanding issues with Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally.
