Just before elections, Trump Govt signs major deals with India |
India`s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a bilateral delegation level meeting with his US counterpart Mark Esper on 26th October. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also met his US counterpart Mike Pompeo. The US Secretary of State and Defence Secretary arrived in New Delhi on 26th October on a two-day visit to India. Indian Defence Minister and the US Defence Secretary reviewed bilateral defence cooperation spanning military to military cooperation, secure communication systems and information sharing, defence trade and industrial issues. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh elaborated upon the initiatives under the Atmanirbhar Bharart to encourage investments in the defence industry in India and invited US companies to avail the liberalized policies and the favourable defence ecosystem in India. The Third Annual India-US, two plus two Ministerial Dialogue held on 27th October, focused on advancing the Indo-US comprehensive global strategic partnership and further strengthening cooperation to promote stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world. India and the US also inked the Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement for Geospatial Cooperation (BECA) which gives India access to advanced satellite imagery, topographical and aeronautical digital data in real time from the US for further enhancing the accuracy of its missiles and armed drones as well as long-range navigation of military aircraft. The agreement was inked during the “two-plus-two” dialogue.
