MILLIONS TAKE HOLY DIP ON PAUSHA PURNIMA |
A sea of humanity moved like orderly waves in the world`s largest congregation of pilgrims and took the holy dip on the occasion of Paush Purnima on monday. Next two shahi snans are scheduled on Mauni Amavasya on 4th February and Basant Panchmi on 10th February. There are six main bathing dates including three Shahi Snans during the 49 day Kumbh Mela which began on January 15, on the day of Makar Sankranti, with a record crowd of 22.5 million devotees participating in the first Shahi Snan of Akahars. Paush Purnima is considered to be auspicious and it marks the beginning of month-long Kalp Vas at Kumbh mela. Throughout the Kalp Vas period, lakhs of people will be staying at small tents near the Sangam in the holy city of Prayagraj for a month to take bath thrice daily and eat only once in a day. Legends have it if one follows Kalp Vas ritual faithfully, it clears both mind and soul.
