Mamata baffles with hat trick win in West Bengal |
The firebrand Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, has led her Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) for a third straight win in the State and will form the government. Didi as she is nicknamed has shown to the Opposition that anything is possible when it comes to elections in India.TMC registered a historic win defying all odds by bagging more than 200 seats. This shocked the BJP that had made a tall claim of getting 200 seats. It is another matter that Didi herself has reportedly lost the election though she might contest her defeat in the court. In Tamil Nadu too, the BJP and its ruling alliance with the AIDMK lost to its arch-rival DMK led by M K Stalin. In Kerala, incumbent Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan bucked a 40-year-trend wherein the Left alternates with Congress-led UDF to make governments. It is yet to be seen if Mamata will emerge as the national opposition face of the country in near future following the total collapse of the Indian National Congress in Bengal. In Tamil Nadu, Stalin`s win in the face of a surprisingly robust showing by the incumbent AIADMK gives him a chance to be his own man after in the shadow of his father, the late former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
