Mayawati breaks up with Samajwadi Party |
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati announced on Monday that her party would contest the upcoming elections in the state alone. Sources say that in response, Samajwadi Party too has said that the party is gearing up to challenge the Bharatiya Janata Party alone in Uttar Pradesh. Samajwadi Party claimed that it is incorrect on Mayawati`s part to blame the party for the loss in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, and it was the BSP that failed to transfer its core vote bank to SP candidates. The party also stated that BSP has lost hold over Scheduled Caste votes. The SP-BSP combine had witnessed a blow in the 2019 general elections, in which it managed to bag 15 seats, while the BJP and its ally Apna Dal(S) garnered 64 out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh. After the declaration of results, the two parties have been blaming each other for the loss saying the "other" party did not succeed in transferring its vote in the general elections.
