Millions celebrate Maha Shivaratri in India |
Millions of devotees thronged temples of Lord Shiva in several parts of India to offer prayers on the occasion of Maha Shivratri on Friday morning. Maha Shivratri, which literally translates to `the greatest night of Shiva` is one of the most celebrated festivals across India. It celebrates the grand marriage of the lord of destruction, Shiva -- with the goddess of fertility and love - Parvati. The duo of Shiv and Parvati is considered to be the epitome of love, power, and togetherness. The festival marking the initiation of their bond - `Maha Shivratri` - is celebrated with great fervour across India. President Ram Nath Kovind has greeted the people on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. In a tweet, Mr Kovind expressed hope that the festival will bring peace, happiness and prosperity to everyone`s lives. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has also greeted the people on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri. In a tweet, he said, as we light up our homes and temples on this auspicious night, let us pray to Lord Shiva to bestow upon us the wisdom and courage to fight many evils within ourselves and outside. He added that may Lord Shiva bless people with the energy to do good deeds.
