Modi proposes COVID-19 mass vaccination |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a mass vaccination program from 11th to 14th of April 2021, exhorting the people to observe the period as a festival to vaccinate, calling it Vaccination UTSAV. The dates assume significance for India as 11th April is the birth anniversary of Jyotiba Phule and 14th is the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Modi also urged the youth to come forward and help senior citizens and others who need support to register for COVID Vaccination. This announcement came as Modi was interacting with Chief Ministers of states on 8th April through video conferencing, Modi stressed the need to create micro containment zones to effectively contain the rising cases of Covid-19. He urged states to intensify their efforts on a war footing. Modi said, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and other states have crossed the peak of the first wave and some other states are also moving towards it. He said it is a serious concern for all. The country has already crossed the time of the peak of the first wave and the growth rate this time is faster than the first wave. The Indian Prime Minister expressed disappointment that in some states people have turned casual compared to the last time and the administration too seems to be lazy. Modi said a challenging situation is emerging again. He urged the states to focus on Test, Track, Treat, Covid appropriate behavior, and Covid Management.He appealed to States to stress COVID-19 testing and the target is to do 70 percent RT-PCR tests. The meeting came in the wake of a steep rise in fresh infections. Modi also discussed the ongoing vaccination drive during the virtual meet.
