Modi to take oath today |
Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s new team for his second term will be a mix of old and new faces in Thursday`s high profile swearing-in ceremony. A multi-layered security arrangement will be in place in the city on Thursday, with deployment of around 10,000 security personnel from Delhi police and paramilitary forces for the ceremony which will be attended by foreign dignitaries and chief ministers and governors of several states. Around 8,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries, have been invited for the event, which will take place in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan at 7 pm Indian time. Ahead of taking the oath, Modi paid homage to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister and BJP patriarch Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also paid tribute at the newly-built National War Memorial. Backed by a strong team of 353 MPs of the BJP-led NDA, PM Modi will take the oath for a second term with his ministers on Thursday evening. It is likely that senior party leaders Rajnath Singh and Sushma Swaraj may retain their portfolios in the new government. The council of ministers will also include the BJP`s allies, such as the JD(U), which snapped ties in 2013 and rejoined the NDA in 2017.
