Modi unveils logo, theme, website for G20 Presidency |
Prime Minister Modi said while launching the theme for India`s G20 presidency that the opportunity to lead the powerful grouping represents a moment of pride for the country as well as growing global confidence in it. The Prime Minister said while each meeting of a powerful block like G20 has its own diplomatic and geo-political significance, for India the significance of hosting it is much more. Prime Minister Modi said "India sees it as a new responsibility and as a measure of the international community`s rising confidence in it. Today, there is tremendous curiosity across the globe about India which is now being analysed in a new context. People are studying our current achievements while expressing optimism about our future”. Modi said the Indian philosophy of monism (Advaita) reflects the belief in the essential unity of all living beings. The choice of logo and the theme represents India`s effort to promote and reinforce Lord Buddha`s message of peace and Gandhian resistance to violence. Referring to the symbol of the lotus in the G20 logo, he emphasised that it represents hope at a time of crisis and chaos in the world. Modi further said that G20 is a group that comprises two-thirds of the world`s population and India is now going to lead and chair this G20 group. Modi labeled it as a big opportunity in the `Amrit Kal` or 75th year of Independence. India will assume the G20 presidency on December 1. On the logo of G20 is not just a symbol but a message. He referred to the Indian culture, where goddesses of both knowledge and prosperity are seated on a lotus. He said shared knowledge will help the world overcome our circumstances, and create shared prosperity that reaches the last person at the last mile. Symbolically, in the G20 logo, the earth is placed on a lotus too.
