Modi wants Kerala developing faster |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in the southern most state in the country, Kerala, wooing the population ahead of the big national general elections in 2024, almost a year from now. The state government is run by the leftist party. Modi received a rousing welcome in the business city of Kochi on 24th April and was in the state capital of Thiruvananthapuam on 25thApril 2023. Modi said his government places a strong focus on cooperative federalism. Speaking at an event in Thiruvananthapuram to inaugurate a number of development projects, he promised further development of Kerala. He said quote: "If Kerala develops, India would develop quicker." He led the inaugural Vande Bharat train in Kerala, which ran from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod. In Thiruvananthapuram, Modi was greeted with a raucous welcome. He also unveiled the Kochi water metro and laid the cornerstone for a Rs 1,500-crore digital research park. On April 24, Modi engaged the state`s ruling CPI(M) and the main opposition Congress, accusing them of working against the interests of the people. Modi also sought out to Kerala`s youth and religious leaders. Speaking at the Yuvam 2023 summit, Modi predicted that Kerala will soon accept the BJP, its work, and its government in the same manner as Goa and the Northeastern states had. Modi urged the youth to speak up for change. According to Modi, the BJP-led administration at the federal level is collaborating with young people to make development a reality and has created a plethora of opportunities for the youth in the past nine years.
