Morgan takes over KKR captaincy |
Eoin Morgan, England`s World Cup winning captain, will take over Kolkata Knight Riders` leadership duties from Dinesh Karthik going forward in IPL 2020, it was announced on October 16. Karthik decided to step down from his position as the captain of the side "with a view to focus on his batting and contributing more to the team`s cause". Under Karthik`s leadership, KKR have won four out of their seven matches in the 13th edition so far and are placed fourth on the points table. Karthik, however, hasn`t been in the best of forms with the bat, averaging 15.42 for his 108 runs so far in the IPL season. In March 2018, Karthik was named as KKR`s new captain, replacing their long-term skipper Gautam Gambhir. Under Karthik`s leadership, KKR progressed to the playoffs stage in 2018 but were eliminated in the league stage last year. Karthik also led from the front in the 2018 IPL season, compiling 498 runs.
