Muslim group to file review petition against Ayodhya Verdict |
The All India Muslim Personal Law Board, AIMPLB, will file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue. The decision was taken at the executive body meeting of the AIMPLB in Lucknow on Sunday. This was stated by AIMPLB Secretary, Zafaryab Jilani at a media briefing held after the meeting. He said it is their right to fight for rightfulness, claiming that most of the Muslims want a review of the verdict. AIMPLB has also decided to refuse the 5-acre alternative plot of land that the Supreme Court has asked the Centre to allot for a mosque. AIMPLB said that senior advocate Rajeev Dhawan will advocate the case. According to Jilani, "The land of the mosque belongs to Allah and under Sharia law, it cannot be given to anybody." The AIMPLB raised objections on several points in the apex court judgement and said the petition will be filed within the stipulated time of thirty days after the verdict. Settling a fractious issue that goes back more than a century, the Supreme Court, in its verdict in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title case on November 9, said the entire 2.77 acres of disputed land should be handed over to the deity Ram Lalla, who was one of the three litigants in the case. The five-judge Constitution bench also directed the Centre to allot a five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board in Ayodhya to build a mosque.
