NZ beat India by 8 wickets |
The swinging conditions and the pace friendly pitch at Hamilton swung fortunes for the home team as they dominated the dominant Indian team and won the match by 8 wickets. Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to ball first and was rewarded soon dismissing the Indian team for a paltry 92 which was just a little better than their lowest score against New Zealand. They were wrecked by a fiery spell of swing bowling by Trent Boult who picked up 5 wickets in his 10 over spell which included 4 maiden overs. His partner in the Indian demolition was Colin De Grandhomme who finished with 3 wickets in his 10 overs. With their combined efforts, the famed Indian batting lineup minus the regular captain Virat Kohli and experienced MS Dhoni bundled out inside 31 overs. In reply, New Zealand opener Martin Guptill gave a flying start, hitting a six and then two fours of the first three balls before getting out on the fourth delivery. India was able to get two kiwi batsman out but a meagre score of 92 is always too difficult for any side to defend. Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls completed the formalities and reached the target in just 15 overs. With this win New Zealand got a consolation as India has already sealed the 5 match series by winning the first 3 ODIs.
