New CMs give loan waivers as promised |
The new chief minister of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath in his first order as Chief Minister, signed the farm loan waiver as promised by the Indian National Congress during its election campaign in the state. Farmers` distress is a big issue in the state of Madhya Pradesh and has been a major drawback against the last government of the Bhartiya Janta Party. Loans less than 2 lakh rupees have been waived off in the order giving a big relief to the farmers. Following suit, newly elected Chhattisgarh chief minister, Bhupesh Bhagel also waived off farm loans of the farmers of his state. He also increased the minimum support price of maize from 1700 rupees to 2500 rupees.
