The election commission of India has asked NRIs and citizens of India working abroad, to beware of fake news on the social media about voting online. A fake news has been circulating that, those who hold Indian passport, can now vote online for the upcoming Lok Sabha 2019 elections. The election commission has made it clear that there is no online voting facility, for any category of voters. An overseas elector may come to his designated Polling station with his Passport as document for identification, to cast his/her vote on the date of poll in his constituency. Parliament amended the Representation of the People Act, 1950, allowing enrollment of Indian citizens living overseas as electors. 71,735 overseas electors have been enrolled in the current electoral rolls. The chief election commissioner, while announcing schedule of the polls for electing 17th Lok Sabha, said that there are 16, 77,386 service electors in the electoral rolls.
