Opposition claims scam in Ram Temple land purchase |
Opposition parties led by the Indian National Congress have alleged scam in the purchase of land in Ayodhya for the famous Lord Ram Temple. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on 14th June said in a Tweet “Shri Ram himself is justice, truth, faith. Betrayal in his name is unrighteous”. Other Opposition parties including Samajwadi Party and the Aam Aadmi Party, have alleged that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had purchased a plot in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh at an inflated price of US $2.5 million. The allegation is supported by AAP`s Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh and a former Samajwadi Minister Pawan Pandey. Sanjay Singh said, “The piece of land in Ayodhya is registered with numbers 243, 244, and 246. Its value is $792 thousand and 280. It was purchased from Kusum Pathak and Harish Pathak by Sultan Ansari and Ravi Mohan Tiwari for $273 thousand 200. The purchase had two witnesses — Anil Mishra, a member of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust, and Rishikesh Upadhyay, who is the Mayor of Ayodhya. It was purchased at 7.10 pm. In the next five minutes, the same land was bought by Ram Janmabhoomi Trust and its secretary Champat Rai for $2.5 million from Ansari and Tiwari. $2.32 million was transferred through RTGS,”. However, the Trust strongly contested the allegations, saying that all sale and purchase is done by proper communication and agreement, and signatures are taken on agreement papers. A statement, signed by Champat Rai, general secretary of the Trust, said “All the court fees and stamp paper purchase is done online and the amount is transferred into the bank account of the seller through online transaction.”
