PM Modi dials US President Trump to talk Pak & trade |
In the first interaction after India`s abrogation of Article 370 which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump and conveyed that extreme rhetoric and incitement to anti-India violence by certain leaders in the region was not conducive to peace. PM Modi`s comments on extreme rhetoric by some regional leaders is believed to be in reference to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been making provocative comments against Modi government and Indian action in the last few days. In a 30-minute telephonic conversation, that was marked by warmth and cordiality, PM Modi and Trump discussed several bilateral and regional matters. PM Modi highlighted the importance of creating an environment free of terror and violence and eschewing cross-border terrorism without exception. Referring to their bilateral discussions in Osaka on the sidelines of G-20 summit, PM Modi expressed hope that the commerce minister of India and the US trade representative would meet at an early date to discuss bilateral trade prospects for mutual benefit.
