PM Modi launches Fit India Campaign |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nation-wide Fit India movement on Thursday morning on the occasion of India`s National Sports Day. The campaign is aimed at encouraging people to inculcate physical activity and sports in their day to day life. At a special function held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi administered the oath of fitness to all. A colourful performance of India`s indigenous martial art forms, dances and sports was shown at the launch. PM Modi paid tribute to Dhyan Chand. He said, "On this day, a great sportsperson was born, Major Dhyan Chand. He amazed the world with his fitness, stamina, and hockey stick." Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju urged people to participate in the Fit India movement in large numbers. Several athletes have also lauded the move. They have urged the people to join the movement for the creation of a more healthy nation. As part of the Fitness pledge, University Grants Commission has asked everyone to walk at least 10,000 steps and follow it up in their daily routine.
