PM inaugurates memorial and projects in Gujarat |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday dedicated to the Nation the National Salt Satyagraha Memorial at Dandi in Gujarat on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi`s 71st death anniversary. The memorial has statues of Mahatma Gandhi and 80 Satyagrahis who had marched with him during the historic Dandi Salt March. It also has 24-narrative murals. depicting various events and stories from the historic 1930 Salt March. The Salt Satyagraha March, better known as `Dandi March`, was a landmark event in the freedom struggle of India. As part of the civil disobedience movement against the British rule, 80 Satyagrahis led by Gandhiji marched 241 miles from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad to the coastal village of Dandi and made salt from sea water, thus breaking the Salt Law imposed by the British. Prime minister upon his visit to Gujarat also inaugurated Venus Hospital at Surat. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Modi said, Ayushman Bharat health protection scheme is world`s biggest health care initiative. He said poorest of poor is now enabled to obtain top-class medical treatment under this scheme. He also lauded the role of vaccination drive mission Indradhanush in reduction of mother and child mortality.
