Political drama in Karnataka |
In the city of gardens, Bengaluru, the capital of Indian state of Karnataka, lawmakers have started plucking members of the state assembly to fill their baskets with an aim of usurping power or to remain in the power in the state. Both the ruling and opposition parties are trading charges that attempts are being made to poach their MLAS to muster majority in the 230 member house. Janata Dal Secular-Congress coalition tottered yesterday when two independent MLAS left the ruling coalition after seven months of being in power. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said he was "totally 100 percent confident" that his government is stable and will complete five years. He said two independent MLAS - H Nagesh and R Shankar - were write-offs from the beginning. He had always taken 118 as the real strength of the coalition, 113 is the majority mark in the 224-member assembly. Congress leaders say the MLAs are in touch and are going nowhere. One of them, Anand Singh, did surface at the Kumara Krupa Guest house where the political meetings were on.
