Political drama unfolds in Kolkata |
Political cauldron started boiling in India ahead of the general elections with major opposition parties lending their full throated support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who is sitting on a dharna after a faceoff between state police and CBI team in Kolkata on Sunday in connection with the probe of the multi crore Ponzi scam. CBI, on Monday moved to the Supreme Court, saying that its probe in Ponzi scams is being obstructed by West Bengal government and the state police. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta filed the petition before the Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi`s court and sought urgent hearing of the case. A number of major political parties like Congress, AAP, RJD, NCP, TDP and DMK extended support to Mamata and alleged that the CBI was being misused by the Narendra Modi government to settle political vendetta. The issue rocked both the houses of Parliament on Monday. Mamata Banerjee, who began a sit-in protest over the CBI`s attempt to question the Kolkata Police chief in connection with chit fund scams, said she will continue her “Satyagraha” till the country and its Constitution are “saved”.
