President confers second set of Padma Awards |
President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday conferred the second set of Padma Awards upon prominent personalities across various walks of life at the function held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday. The distinguished awardees included actor Manoj Bajpayee, Mahashaya Dharam Pal Gulati and Former Cricketer Gautam Gambhir. Other prominent names who were conferred the awards included singer Teejan Bai, tabla player Swapan Chaudhuri & Footballer Sunil Chhetri. This year`s awardees comprised four Padma Vibhushan, 14 Padma Bhushan and 94 Padma Shri recipients. The Padma awards, which were announced on the eve of Republic Day, include 21 women and 11 persons from the category of foreigners, NRI, PIO, OCI and one transgender person. The first set of Padma awards was presented on March 11, in which President Kovind had presented awards to 56 personalities. The remaining 56 were honoured on Saturday.
