Prince Charles on visit to India |
Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales called upon Indian President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday. Prince Charles is on a 2 day visit to India. Welcoming Prince Charles, President Kovind said, India and Britain have together much to contribute as the world`s pre¬eminent democracies to effectively address the many challenges faced by the world today. The President said India and the United Kingdom `are natural partners bound by historical ties and shared values of democracy, rule of law and respect for multi¬cultural society. As the world`s pre¬eminent democracies, our two countries have much to contribute together to effectively address the many challenges faced by the world today." President Kovind congratulated Prince Charles on his election as head of the Commonwealth, saying India considered the Commonwealth as an important grouping that voiced the concerns of a large number of countries, including the Small Island Developing States. The Prince planted a champa sapling in the herbal garden of Rashtrapati Bhavan. He was taken around the garden and shown different plants that have medicinal properties. The Prince showed keen interest in India`s alternative model of healthcare. Mr Kovind thanked the Prince of Wales for his support for Ayurveda research.
