Qatar Airways to ferry medical supplies free to India |
Coming to India`s aid in these difficult times of Coronavirus, the national carrier of the kingdom of Qatar, Qatar Airways on 29th announced that it would airlift 300 tonnes of medical items to India from various global suppliers free of charge. India is struggling with the second wave of Coronavirus infection as hospitals in several states of India is reportedly reeling under a shortage of medical oxygen, medicines, and beds. After the sudden surge in the Corona infections in the country, there is a severe shortage of medical supplies. Countries like the US, the UK, France, Germany, Russia and the UAE has been sending oxygen concentrators and medical supplies to assist India. Qatar Airways has stated: "The airline intends to transport 300 tonnes of aid from across its global network to Doha where it will be flown in a three-flight cargo aircraft convoy directly to destinations in India where it is most desperately needed.” The cargo shipment will include PPE equipment, oxygen canisters, and other essential medical items, besides donations by individuals and companies around the world. The airline said it will be transporting these items "free of charge from global suppliers.” India saw a record single-day rise of 3,79 thousand and 257 new Coronavirus infections pushing the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 18 million 376 thousand and 524. The active cases crossed the 3 million mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on 29th April. The country has reported over 3 hundred thousand cases for the past 7 days.
