Rahul Gandhi`s citizenship under scanner |
Setting in motion a political storm, the Ministry of Home Affairs of the ruling government has sent a notice to Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi seeking response to charges that he held a british citizenship, a move which has angered the opposition parties. Rahul Gandhi`s affidavit with his nomination papers filed in Amethi was deemed valid by the returning officer which stated him as an Indian citizen. The ministry has given Rahul Gandhi a fortnight to respond to the complaint filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy which states that Gandhi reportedly mentioned his citizenship as British in the annual returns of a company filed in 2005 and 2006. The Congress party reacted with anger at the allegation. His sister and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said “The whole of India knows that Rahul Gandhi is an Indian. People have seen him being born and grow up in India. What nonsense is this.” Senior Congress party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said “Narendra Modi has no answer for unemployment, Modiji has no answer for agrarian distress and black money, that`s why he is resorting to fake narrative through his government`s notices to divert attention.
