India`s outstanding state of Odisha paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi @ 150th birth anniversary, and on the occasion inaugurated the 39th World Congress of Poets at the magnificent Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneshwar. Addressing 1,000 reputed poets, half of them from 82 countries, the 5-time Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said poetry has the power to change, transform and bring in a better social order. Attendees hailed India as the land of poetry. One can cherish ancient history with cultural pluralism, world heritage site of Sun Temple at Konark, gorgeous beaches, tribal culture in a progressive state that magically rebuild itself after a devastating cycle two months ago. Honorary Doctor Litterarum was awarded to eminent Writer Padma Bhushan Mr. Ruskin Bond; Eminent Artist, Ganesh Haloi; and presented Gandhi Prize for literature to eminent Gandhian and Anthropologist, Acharya Bhabananda. Honorary Diploma presented to Padma Shri Bhabani Charan Pattnayak, noted Gandhian and Freedom fighter. A Gandhi statue was unveiled, a `Karmachan` library opened and hundreds of poets read their works in English, Chinese, Spanish, Hindi, Japanese, and Odia languages on the subject of compassion emphasized by Mahatma. Books of 67 authors of various languages released.
