Rohingya Hindus faced darkness |
BJP leader and former Rajya Sabha member Tarun Vijay who visited Bangladesh during Durga Puja found 10 mandaps, with Hindu families thronging in large numbers. Gobind Promanik, president of Bangladesh Hindu Mahajot, insisted that I he should visit the Rohingiya Hindus` refugee camp near Cox`s Bazar. At Ukhiya, 50 kms from Cox`s Bazar, there was the refugee camp. A blue board announced the direction to the camp: `Temporary Refugee Camp of Hindu Refugees from Myanmar. `The small village camp, sheltering 523 Hindu refugees, bore a pathetic sight. About 100 refugees have to live in a small hall-type hutment. The women and children, along with the men, have to huddle spending sleepless nights. Less than a fortnight ago, two men were abducted by `jangis` from this camp. One was found dead the next day, the whereabouts of the second still not known. He met three children, between 8 and 12 years, all with shaven heads. `Terrorists` had killed their parents before their eyes in Myanmar. They had performed shraddha, thus their shaved heads. A woman came to him with folded hands as she had come to know that some Hindus had come to see them from India. She said: Take us away from here. Jangis [in Bangladesh] are not letting us live in peace even when we have ran away from our home.
