SC orders CBI to carry out probe in Shillong |
Amid increasing bonhomie among opposition parties to lend full throated support to the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee , currently sitting on “Save India “Dharna ,The Supreme Court on Monday, heard the CBI`s plea alleging contempt against Kolkata Police officers for obstructing the probe and for the destruction of evidence in Saradha scam. The apex court has directed the top cop of the WB to cooperate in the CBI probe. There would not be any coercion during investigation and it will be carried out neither in Delhi and WB but in Shillong. Mamata has described it as a morale victory. She said she was grateful to the court for the order. She made it clear that Rajeev Kumar had never objected to cooperation but the manner with which CBI was behaving was not correct. The court has also issued contempt notice to the state`s cops and they have to reply that. The next hearing is on FEB 20th. The CBI had moved to the Court on Monday, seeking directions to the WB government to cooperate with the investigation in the chit fund cases. On Sunday, a team of CBI officials were briefly detained after they arrived at the residence of Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar to investigate him in the case.
