Security beefed up ahead of the polls |
The nation will go to polls starting thursday for the 17th Lok Sabha. Security has been beefed up for the first phase of Lok Sabha polls. In the first phase, polls will be held in 91 constituencies spread over 18 States and 2 Union Territories. All necessary arrangements has been in place for conducting peaceful election on these seats. As the Model code of conduct is implemented the Leaders resorted to door to door interactions with voters on Tuesday but no public meetings were held. All parliamentary constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep, Telangana and Uttarakhand will go to polls in this phase and special security arrangements have been made for conducting peaceful elections in these states. Other states where voting will take place in the first phase are Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Simultaneously, voting for single phase Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and for 28 of 147 seats in Odisha will also take place on Thursday.
