Social Media platforms` Code of Ethics for Elections |
Social media platforms and Internet and Mobile Association of India are set to come up with a Code of Ethics for the parliamentary elections. Elections to 543 parliamentary seats will be held in seven phases from 11th of next month till 19th May. Counting of votes will be taken up on 23rd of May. According to the code submitted to the Election Commission, IAMAI and Social Media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter and Google, will create a high priority dedicated reporting mechanism and appoint dedicated teams during the polls for taking expeditious action on any reported violations.No political campaign will be allowed to run on major social media platforms in the last 48 hours before polling ends. The EC has nominated special expenditure observers for Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra for the elections. They have been mandated to monitor the works on preventing the distribution of cash, liquor or other freebies to voters to vitiate the poll process.
