Sonia says Rahul will lead Congress with courage |
Despite a seemingly electoral debacle, India`s former Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi is going all out to defend her son Rahul Gandhi who just took over this week as the new President of Congress. In a ceremonial change of guard, Sonia Gandhi on December 16 said the party should set its house in order and be ready for any sacrifice to stop the communal forces in the country. Congratulating Rahul on his elevation, she said personal attacks on her son have made him fearless and voiced confidence that the young leadership will infuse new vigour in the party. Sonia headed the 132-year-old Congress for the last 20 years. She thanked party leaders and workers for the support she received during her tenure as its chief. The event was attended by Rahul Gandhi`s sister Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and other senior party leaders.
